I’ve wanted to do something like this for a while. I don’t know what took me so long, but anyway, I feel like I have somewhat of a purpose for it, now. It’s 4:39am GMT and I’m sitting in my Mom’s apartment in a tiny town in Southwest Ireland. Tomorrow, which I firmly define as the next time I wake up, will be day three of leaving the US for 50 days. The food is great, the weather is even better (compared to Florida weather, anyway) and this part of the world is certainly surreal. However… something’s missing… and I’m starting to get cravings:
ROLLER DERBY!
aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh!! I just got done listening to the latest Derby Deeds podcast and I listened live to Derby Hurts radio, which in a round-about sort of way, got me to Tumblr. I want to go skate. Badly. I’ve looked on Facebook for leagues close by, and I found this page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Kerry-Kingdom-Roller-Girls/106241122777432 . It hasn’t been updated in 5 months, so I’m thinking the idea has been abandoned :( plus, my Mom and the locals I’ve spoken to all say there aren’t any roller rinks anywhere around here. The closest is probably in Tralee, which is about an hour away by car. So, I’m not quite sure what I’m going to do until next weekend…
Next weekend: Mom and I are taking the train to a town fairly close to Dublin to watch some horse races. Afterward, I’m going to head into Dublin, crash with some family, then hopefully go skating with the Dublin Roller Girls. That’d be grand.
I’ll end with that for now. More later, I suppose :)
